The Alentejo wallpainting, like the later group in the north of the country, also had its origin in all sorts of sponsors (noblemen, brotherhood / associations, charities, manufacturers commissions), and covered, also, the whole region, existing both in religious buildings (shrines, chapels, churches and monasteries) and in civilian buildings (palaces), although in thematic, formal and chronological terms, the generic characterization is not repeated.
